I am in the need of physical switches to control my lights, realibility is key here. Currently I am using Milight lights in my house. I live in rental, so I am rather looking for a non-permanent solutions, than those “in wall mounted things”.
The only problem I see, is that it needs a gateway and that gets pricy. Also the gateway is Chinese plug, and I would need an EU plug. Any way to overcome this shortcommings easily?
The gateway is £20, so not pricey at all really It comes with an adapter for the same price, the adapter does I admit push the gateway off the wall by another 1"1/2 but you put it behind something and you would hardly know it was there. It integrates very well with HA too
The panel you mentioned uses 12/24V DC, do you have that in your walls?
I’m in a rental too so everything needs to be wireless / plug-in. I use the Xiaomi buttons you linked with a hub to control various things and they are great. I really like that you can basically assign 3 functions to each button by using: ‘single click’, ‘double click’ and ‘long press’. I have one as a door bell (single click) and also to turn ON the light outside the front door (long press). The great thing is that no one else knows it can turn the light ON, thats just for me coming home drunk in an Uber late at night
I guess you’r right, the cheapest I found was 33€, but the 24€ you linked is a bit more reasonable. It just feels a bit dum to get yet another gateway box…
The fact that those Xiomi switches have three functions is them, is pretty cool. How reliable they have been? No major issues?
I agree, I have a number of the Xiaomi Switches around the house and like all the other sensors work without any issues, and the multi function is a wife winner.
I have one in the Shower, as I have a motion sensor that turns on the light and after a certain amount of time the light goes off, if someone is having a long shower, hitting the button turns the light back on, and after 2 months is still working considering the moisture and steam its putting up with…
