One solution is to use 2x Xiaomi door sensors strategically placed to find out if it it tilted, opened or closed.
I wouldn’t say it’s close to optimal.
Is there really no door sensor with tilt other than Shelly?
Is this the first iteration of it? They had just released a second version which claims more than 2 year battery life. While the main page https://shelly.cloud/products/shelly-door-window-2-smart-home-automation-sensor/ does not list a tilt feature I have seen it listed as a feature on another site selling the item.
I own the first version. I know there is v2 since June. But its predecessor also boasted 2 years of service life. Anyway there were no improvements related to battery drain listed in change log (there is reset button accessible without opening the sensor case and improvements in reed sensor position)
So I expect both have the same abilities battery life wise.
There wasn’t a whole lot written on paper outlining all the differences between the original Shelly 1 and the version they are shipping today but from a tear down comparison the version sold today is vastly improved in performance, quality and safety over its predecessor so hopefully this new door sensor follows suit especially since I was planning to buy one. lol
I guess when I get it i’ll report back in 3+mos => 2+yrs when the batteries die.
Hi ab0tj, I am new to all this, can you give me a little more info on how to connect the reed sensor to the Di mini. I plan on using the DI to control 8 relays for some legacy lighting controls i now have following the info here: https://khaz.me/cheap-and-easy-control-of-8-relays-through-home-assistant/
Thanks,
Bob
FWIW, I know I’m late to this discussion but the Sonoff Zigbee hub is completely Wi-Fi. It operates as an all-in-one Zigbee solution, no USB sticks required. It can also be flashed with Tasmota to further isolate it from the cloud and enable MQTT updates to anywhere you’d like.
I know, I think this didn’t even exost when this thread was opened. I’m happy with my ConBee.
