Hello! I am planning a renovation for my house to redo the lighting, kitchen (range, oven, and fridge) washer and dryer, and TV (+ sound system). I am also looking to get a smart thermostat. What brands should I go with that play nice with HA?
In general, you want devices that support standard protocols (Zigbee or Zwave), or which have a published local API.
Failing that, “works with HomeKit” is more likely to have a chance than something with its own “smart app”.
If I were to do it all over again I would go for wired only. Wireless is bound to fail from time to time. I have ZigBee and z-wave. Both have failed me occasionally.
I think that demonstrates my point — if your main goal is turning lightbulbs on and off, lots of wired options, but for other things not so much.
Thanks for the response! I have worked with Z-wave devices before so I am familiar with them. I’ll keep this in mind when I start to plan things out and buy devices.
