I am looking to purchase some LED downlights and I am wondering what would be the best ones to get. I would like it to work local and not through any hub if possible. It would also be nice to have the full colour range and dimmable.
Any ideas?

I’ve been looking for downlights as recently well.
Here’s a dump of what I think looks somewhat promising.
The only two that doesn’t need hubs will be the Wifi ones.
Apologies in advance for not having any links, all my links are from my local sources.
This homekit downlight has esp chip, so you can still flash tasmota/esphome on it

Can you point me to a config for ESPHome for the DoHome HomeKit Smart LED Ceiling Lights RGBCW 24W Ceiling Light? Looking for someone having proof of concept. Hoping to not have to try and figure it out myself and certainly don’t want to remake the wheel if someone already did.
With beken chip officially supported by esphome, you can pretty much pick any tuya downlights like lumary
I’m going to do some google research in the meantime, but if you wouldn’t mind expounding on your comment and possiby some links to reference sites/video? That would be helpful. Thanks.
This should cover it
You can view a list of devices that can be flashed to esphome, filter with ‘downlight’ keyword
Unless you need color- why use expensive smart lights? Just use dumb LED lights with a smart wall switch.
Thanks. I viewed that one a little while back, but I don’t think I understood or put it all in the proper perspective as to what he was actually doing and the significance. I will check it out a few more times to pick up ore details as well.
I mean does anyone really “need” RGB? In most cases no, but we “want” the ability so not only can color be used for lighting, but for me the notifications capability of changing the outer ring on something like the Aqara Ceiling Light T1 and many other generic Yeelight etc. type ceiling lights.
OK, you got me here.
I know most of this conversation is around integration, but I think what would also be important to discuss is quality of the lights themselves. I’m in the same boat where I have a room with just a ceiling fan/light combo that I’m looking to add four downlights to. The room is going to be my office/maker space so I’m looking for good quality on top of integration.
Some of the options I’ve been looking into:
