Best practice for migrating automations from Other Platforms/Vendors to Home Assistant,

Hi newbie here. Before I start on my initial HA journey, I just wanted to check how people deal with routines that already exist with various other platforms and vendors. Is it best to delete them and then start afresh in HA?

For example, I have an Alexa routine that uses a Tapo motion sensor to turn lights on at night. Is it good practice to remove the Alexa routine and then reconstitute in Home Assistant. My intuition is that is good practice to keep them in one place. I hope this makes sense. Thanks all.

I'd suggest, if you are using HA as your central device control, do not override HA Automations with Alexa routines. That being said, device actions/routines depend on the integration's method to HA.

You can turn on and off automations freely in HA, so you could slowly rewrite them and test as needed before fully removing the old ones.

And yes, I'd recommend fully moving if HA proves to be what you need.

Thanks, that makes sense.

Not sure either of our replies are the ACTUAL solution. You will run into issues with certain devices beyond switches/fans/covers/media devices and lights

What do you mean?
