Best sensor detecting door ajar as well as wide open

I have z-wave sensors for monitoring doors. One sensor, to the wine cellar door, can be just ajar (latch bolt resting against plate), but the door sensor doesn’t trigger.

I want to know if the latch is engaged. What kind of door sensor should I be looking for, or are there “adjustable” door sensors?

Perhaps a laser distance sensor?
That might have enough detail.
Not sure though
