They all appear in Home Assistant and I can control basic functions like on/off, dimming, and some color changes.
However, compared to the official Govee app, the functionality is extremely limited:
No micro-zone lighting control
No access to individual segments or advanced color effects
Cannot control background lights or other additional features
I understand that the official integration also exposes only limited functionality, so I’m wondering:
Is this a Matter limitation?
A limitation in Home Assistant’s Matter implementation?
Or something that Govee would need to expose better in Matter?
Basically, I’d like to have full feature access in Home Assistant similar to what the Govee app offers.
Has anyone found a better way to integrate these lights fully into Home Assistant? Would it be worth submitting this as a feature request to Home Assistant, or is this something that can only be solved by Govee improving their Matter support?
@mariva Did you gain any new insights regarding your questions? I’ve just added four Govee GU10 light bulbs via matter successfully and was wondering about the same things.
I’m looking for the same solution. I have several ceiling lamps that I’d like to switch between different modes using an IKEA button, without having to pull out my phone.
I recently added a couple of RGBWW B22 800 lumen bulbs for my living room, 9 RGBWW GU10 bulbs for my Kitchen, and 3 GU10 for an ensuite.
Initially, I put them in to HA using Matter directly from my phone without using the Govee app at all. And like you say, just limited functionality.
To get more functionality, I added them to the Govee app. They initially connected via Bluetooth, but I found if I went in to each device and clicked on Wifi, it would tell me that they were already joined to a Wifi network via matter and did I want to use the same network - I answered Yes.
In the Govee app, I was able to create DIY-Scenes.
I also took the opportunity to enable LAN Control on the devices that allowed it (only the B22 bulbs unfortunately), and also enabled Device Safety so that nobody else could grab my bulbs!
Finally, I added Govee Cloud Integration via HACS.
This gives you much more control over the bulbs, and will use LAN control where possible otherwise it will fall back to the cloud.
So now, I use the Matter devices for basic bulb control on/off/dimming/basic colour/etc
And if I want anything more advanced, I use the Govee Cloud Integration.
I’ve got to be honest, I was hoping for more from the Matter integration, but I’m pretty pleased with the level of control that I have now. I would be happier if the GU10 allowed LAN control as well, but hopefully that will come with a later update - for the amount of time that I actually use the additional scene options (hardly ever), I don’t mind that running via the cloud.
