Beware : google time travel bill

Be careful with it, I have just been hit with a £56 bill for September. I had 5 sensors and they were only running for 20 days of the month

I had credit of £154 and the bill was £200 (+tax)

totally removed from HA now. ffs

I switched to waze

I was testing it… wished I had moved. Asking google for a refund…

FYI google owns waze, it’s only a matter of time.

yes, had mine too yesterday. Luckily it was still 0,-… completely fuzzy how that is calculated, and the google website isn’t the most transparent you could imagine.
Though I only have 2 google maps at the moment they had me down for 150E or so, and credited it because of the trial period. Checking the credit there, it hasn’t changed and still is the full amount it started with??

We really should have a way to tell what HA does with Google travel, cant we create a counter of sorts?btw, be secure and set a budget!

There are details on the component page that explain how to set quotas to avoid exceeding the credit tier. So far with 5 trackers using it and those set with scan_interval: 600 I’ve stayed within that.

There have also been discussions about being able to turn updating of that on and off, and update on demand. One of the developers is investigating that. Obviously there’s no indication of when this will arrive, but it’s on the radar.

thats good to hear indeed, thanks for the heads up. Sure I’ve set the scan_interval and taken other measures. It remains a leap of faith. One simply hasn’t got a clue how things are calculated.

and this is why I am asking for a refund…

it is strange as I was away for the 1st 10 days of September and it looks like I was getting 100% errors and I shouldn’t seriously have been billed for them
