BLE/iBeacon tags to locate items without complicated setup

I am looking for a BLE tag I can put on something (e.g., key chain, wallet, purse) and if within range, be able to track the item to its location within a few feet.

I know of the Bermuda BLE Trilateration integration. Unfortunately it is way over-complicated for what I need.

Anyone have set up such solution? i.e., purchased a BLE tag (which?), linked it to a Home Assistant or HACS integration or add-on, and was able to use a phone with HA on it to locate such tag? No third party app, no additional hardware besides HA running, and Android with HA app.

Or, some other way? iBeacons?

Unfortunately it’s probably the easiest too.

Your other alternative involves the same hardware (literally - Bluetooth BLE receiver gear. Which h the recommendation is currently esphome Bluetooth proxies)

At that point your choice is write your own automation to interpret signal strength from a BLE proxy and approximate distance or Bermuda.
