Bluetooth ESP32 proxy - do I need a 'real' BT adapter too?

I have setup an ESP32 with the Bluetooth proxy yaml and it’s online and all setup.

But I can’t then setup Bluetooth in HA - I get no adapters found.

Do I need a real BT adapter plugged in, even if I just want to use ESP32s as proxies?
