Bosch Rauchwarnmelder II without Bosch Smart Home Controller II(Hardware)

Hello, will the Bosch smoke detector work without the Bosch Smart Home Controller, in conjunction with Home Assistant

FYI, if if follows the Zigbee specifications then it can technically be made to work with Home Assistant’s built-in ZHA integration, however wheather or not it will work out-of-the-box or if a custom ZHA Device Handler (quirk) first needs to be written for it is another matter. Suggest that you either just test it or read and search more using the English product name and specific model of it exactly + perhaps a few links (and not only the German name for it). It is maybe this “Bosch Smart Home Smoke Alarm II” product?

Regardless, do make sure to read and see these links about info and solution needed:

I assume that you mean the Bosch BSD-2. According to two sources, they may or may not work. I suggest to simply try it out. Depending on where you purchase it, you might be able to send it back afterwards.

This post says that they work with Z2M, but not with ZHA (german):

While this issue says that they work with ZHA:

Again, specifics are very important. Is that “BSD-2” (“Bosch Smart Home Smoke Alarm II” ) model the exact same smoke detector as the “RBSH-SD-ZB-EU” model that is discussed in that ZHA device support request in this ZHA Device Handlers repository? → [Device Support Request] Bosch Smoke Alarm II · Issue #1562 · zigpy/zha-device-handlers · GitHub (and not some other model, like for example the 50001213 (Bosch Smart Home Twinguard) that is discussed in the ZHA device support request here → https://github.com/zigpy/zha-device-handlers/issues/2561)

If so then there does indeed seem to be a mixed experience, and FYI, mixed experience from different users may sometimes also depend on which exact Zigbee Coordinator adapter and firmware that you are using with your Zigbee gateway.

If you have not already bought a Zigbee Coordinator then the current advice is to buy either ITead’s “Sonoff Zigbee 3.0 USB Dongle Plus” (model “ZBDongle-P” based on Texas Instruments CC2652P radio chip) if do not know for sure which Zigbee gateway solution to use or buying the Home Assistant SkyConnect (based on Silicon Labs EFR32MG21 radio chip) if know for sure that will be using Home Assistant’s built-in ZHA integration.

Regardless of which one you buy, flash it with a later firmware before starting, then do as suggested and simply try to pairing/joining it to the Zigbee solution, (if it does not work then submit a new device support request or just return it to the reseller).

I can confirm, that Bosch smoke detector isn’t working with ZHA&SkyConnect.
I’ve tried two smoke detectors in my HA-installation. ZHA detects the device and the interview starts, but won’t finish, so I couldn’t use them in my home. Now I’m looking for other Zigbee-Smoke-Detectors which will working with ZHA&SkyConnect.

I have several smoke detectors from frient at home, which seems to work very well. Connection works with ZHA and Zigbee2MQTT with the SkyConnector. I personally like the design, however they are very small compared to other products and you might need to drill new holes for them. I had to fill most of the existing ones.
