Got my HA on RaspPi 4 up and running this weekend and want to start to connect Smartthings and configure for remote access. This is probably a super newbie question but i’ve struggled for a while and exhausted all my internet searches.
I’ve got a Fios Router (g1100) and a Smartthings WIFI mesh network setup. I started with the RaspPi connected to the Fios but realized the local name wouldn’t resolve so i moved it to be connect directly to Smartthings. Its online and has a IP address and working locally just fine.
I’ve got a DuckDNS account and set all that up and now i need to expose my local IP address to my public on port 443 right. So do i have to setup port forwarding on my Fios Router AND my Smartthings (Plume under the covers) - or just the FIOS Router?
Reason i ask is because i’ve tried every which way i can think of to configure port forwarding and static NAT on the Fios Router and can’t connect to HA. All connections default to the Fios Router.
Anyone have this setup in place and can share their settings with me?
Hi - More than happy to pay that from what i understand it does. I did register for the service and as far as i can tell its connected to my HA server. But that doesn’t solve my home network configuration does it? Don’t i still need to open up the ports so that the HA Cloud service can communicate with my local server?
I do not have Port forwarding or any other special router setup; other than the fact HomeAssistant device has default internet access. It still works for me.
Ok I see what HA Cloud is doing now…it handles all the encryption and tunneling to the HA server on the local network. So with this I don’t have to worry about opening any ports or using DuckDNS or anything like that.
Now if this works with Smartthings integration i’m golden…
