Brilliant meter (Hydro One - Ontario Canada)

Hi,

I’m interested in getting data out of this meter for the electricity consumption for my Home Assistant device.
Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Picture of the meter is attached.

I suspect it’s not really possible. My meter also only has a single LCD display, and while it has a spot that blinks with consumption, I couldn’t come up with a good way to capture that (and since the rest of it cycles through various things, a camera didn’t seem viable either).

I ended up putting something in the main electrical panel and have been happy with that; there are times when knowing the actual voltage too can come in handy.

Sorry to open an old thread, but would you mind explaining what you put on the electrical panel?

A pair of these and an ESP32 running ESPHome:

There are more ‘off-the-shelf’ options out there, but they’re pricier. Regardless, definitely not something to be done unless you are very comfortable working with mains power; hire an electrician if you have any doubts.

I use these to monitor individual circuits. My main has a smart meter (BCHydro) and I have a unit from BCHydro that provides me with the main house power usage.
I use the Zigbee version to keep everything local. I was able to connect the BCHydro unit using MQTT
These only handle up to 80A. Each unit has 2 sensors and is powered via 120v. I have them all mounted on a rail with a single power line feeding them all. I think each unit costs about $30 (AliExpress) so that’s about $15/circuit which is a little cheaper than the Emporia system. You do have to use a Quirk in HA to access the entities using ZHA.
You can purchase the same thing with the larger clamps in order to handle different Amperage and fit the larger wire diameters.
