Broadlink RM4 Pro Network Timeout Error -4000

I’m struggling to maintain the connection between Home Assistant and Broadlink RM4 Pro as the RM4 regularly timeout.

At times the Broadlink integration in HA displays the following message: Retrying setup: [Errno -4000] Network timeout: No response received within 15s. At other times the integration looks fine but the remote entity shows as unavailable.

I’m also experiencing similar issues when using the device directly via the Broadlink app where I receive a message: Device Control Timeout(-4000). For some reason, if I press the device (TV) power button repeatedly in the Broadlink app then sometimes this seems to get past the Timeout and actually does turn on my TV!

Based on feedback from Broadlink I tried the following steps but am still experiencing the issue:

  1. Confirm the security mode for my 2.4Ghz network is WPA2 - DONE
  2. Select 802.11 b/g/n for WiFi protocol - DONE
  3. Enable port forwarding for TCP 80, 80080, 16387, 1812 - DONE
  4. Turn off Protected Management Frames - DONE
  5. Turn off firewall - NOT DONE

My setup is an Asus Zenwifi AX router where the RM4 Pro has a manually assigned static IP and the RM4 Pro is connected to a USB plug that outputs 2A at 5V.

I’m all out of ideas and any help is much appreciated!

Looks like you have registered your RM4 Pro with the Broadlink Cloud?

It brings you a lot of problems when using the Broadlink Cloud in parallel with HA. Once the device is locked into the cloud you will not be able to correctly control it through HA nor through the Broadlink app. Thus you need to remove the RM4 Pro from the Broadlink Cloud to use it exclusively with HA.

  1. First remove the RM4 Pro from the Broadlink app. When successfully done the device will start to blink fast.
  2. Reset the RM4 Pro by inserting a needle/pin into the device’s reset hole. Make sure the RM4 Pro has completely reseted!
  3. Release and delete the assigned IP-address for the RM4 Pro from your router’s configuration.
  4. Redo adding the device to the Boadlink App but as soon as it has connected to your network quit the Broadlink app. Don’t let it connect to the Broadlink cloud! This will stop the device before it can bind itself to the Broadlink cloud services. This way it will work exclusively on your internal network (LAN).
  5. Readd the internal IP-address the RM4 Pro has been assigned to as static within the Asus Zenwifi AX router’s DHCP server.

After you have done the above remove and then re-add the RM4 Pro within HA’s Broadlink integration.

If you have done the latter correctly the Network Device Control Timeout(-4000)-messages should be gone and the devices you are controling (i.e. your TV) will always switch instantly.

Well… not entirely. I still get the error occasionally, but not often enough to be a problem.

So did you finally get it sorted it out?

Aaaargh! Spoke too soon. None of my Broadlinks working this morning. Repairs reports “unknown service” remote.send_command. All my Tasmota switches stopped working too.

Edit: Looks like the 2.4Ghz network is down.

Firstly, thanks for the step by step instructions, it was super easy to follow!

I was finally able to re-add the RM4 Pro using these instructions and so far it seems to be working perfectly! There was an added step for me that after I added the device back to the Broadlink App I had to go into device settings and unlock the device in order for the HA integration to successfully connect to the device.

(For completeness, while doing step 3 where I deleted the assigned IP address I also deleted the port forwarding settings on my router for the RM4 Pro device.)

I spoke too soon!

Although the Broadlink integration itself appears to be stable in HA, and is no longer displaying the -4000 message, the device itself is not stable and appears to become unavailable every few hours:

Any updates on this? I have the same issue

Nothing positive I’m afraid. The device keeps tuning on and becoming unavailable every few hours. When it’s on it does actually work as expected but I haven’t noticed any pattern as to when it becomes unavailable.

Damn, I have 2 RM4s that are basically now useless

Is it a network issue? They only work at 2.4Ghz - if you have 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz sharing the same SSID and password they may be failing to connect. Try switching off the 5Ghz to see if that improves matters.

I have a different SSID for my 5Ghz network.

Hi,
same problem here. I’m using Broadcom RM3 mini with firmware 57. Followed all the steps above, however my RM3 mini is doing periodical reboots every 10 minutes and goes offline for up to 2,5 minutes.
It can be seen easily when running ping -t <IP-Address of RM3 mini>

Any idea how I can fix this behaviour?

UPDATE: Problem was device itself. After switching to RM4Mini everything works fine

Did anyone resolve this?

My RM4 mini works 95% of the time but I can see it disconnecting from my Wi-Fi very 20 minutes or so, the led light starts to blink and I can see a disconnect in my AP logs and sometimes an error in the HA logs.

My RM4 mini is completely blocked from the internet, its mostly stable but at times when I needed to use it I’d had to wait a minute for it to connect to Wi-Fi which is annoying.
