Buffer I/O error on device sda8 , logical block on proxmox VM

console just keeps going with this:

i created a completely different VM to try and start over but then it’s doing the same thing:

the rest of my VMs seem to be working fine, please help!

Drive about to die?

I agree with fleskefjes.
I am not sure how it is done in Proxmox, but you should be able to find the SMART values for the drive.
It can tell you if it detects any issues, alike a run out of replacement sectors or the like.
Even though SMART might not see anything the drive can still be dieing. SMART have just not discovered it yet.

Sorry, your disks are dead. I hope your volume was set up with RAID redundancy but it seems it was not. Proxmox supports ZFS, did you create a RAID1 or RAIDZ array for those drives? If Proxmox is the host of the VM, check out the Proxmox administrative user interface for further clues on what went wrong. If Proxmox is a VM itself, then you’ll have to check the underlying host OS for disk problems.

well, it’s letting me backup the snapshot hopefully it completes and then i can restore it after i replace the disk

quick little update, so while i was trying to back up everything my “metube” vm would not backup. then i tried to backup my HAOS and it failed. for no logical reason, i thought to myself “maybe metube is messing something up.” i dont have anything important on there so i deleted it and then tried to backup my HAOS snapshot again and it this time it was successful

after the backup was completed, i decided i’d try to start HAOS one more time before i replace my drive - low and behold, the thing pretty much booted up normally. i don’t know what was wrong with my metube vm but completely deleting it seems to have fixed my problem.

Check your SMART values.
Your media have issues.

SMART values seem ok? but maybe you’re right, it doesn’t know?

well then… the new drive has drastically different R/RW data lol
