Using the latest hassIO as from todays downloads, on a Rasperry Pi3B.
Not sure what category this goes in, but I need to build this excellent MQTT client from @gbpenton here https://github.com/gpbenton/engMQTTClient
Hoiw the heck do I do this? There are not build-essentials (configure, make, etc). As I understand from spending 5 hours tonight scouring the forum, I understand that HomeAssistant is a docker (and i had to spend hours reading about that!). hassio is the host linux OS that runs the HomeAssistant docker? So I eventually figured out how to SSH into port 22222 using the authorized_keys on a CONFIG usb partition.
Wow! I havent started using HA yet!!
BUT, next step was to build the client as per instruction from @gbpenton , but how on earth do I install the build-essentials ? I used SSH and then the “login” command to get to the host OS in which the HA docker is running, but this is a weird linux system - I mean even my fave “find” command is missing.
Please let this be easy , Im close to giving up on HA and trying something less demanding.
This is such a great shame. Not everyone has time for this, Ive 4 kids and a long daytime job. I and many people just want to create a smart home with minmal fuss. I’ve had a set of eTRVs for two weeks now and still cannot get them working under HassIO having spent 1.5 weeks researching and reading , particularly how to install and setup HA. Such a shame that is sooooo time consuming .
Thanks
