I am looking for a hardware device that I can use to arm/disarm my alarm. Would like a light on that device to turn red when armed, off when disarmed etc.
Does hardware like this exist?
I look at smart buttons but can not find one with configuarabke light
Can you use a switch to operate things other than light?

Not sure of your detailed requirements, but, assuming your alarm system is integrated with HA, you could use a zigbee led strip controller…
Or a plain zigbee bulb.
It is a custom build alarm system in HA. I was more looking for a small form factor, low energy indicator light on the button switch itself so I don’t have to leave the alarm light bulb on all night
