I’m a home assistant newbie trying to add some IKEA Tradfri devices to the network.
I have home assistant green, skyconnect dongle, and I’ve added the ZHA integration.
I have successfully added the Tradfri outlet to ZHA.
But I can’t find information on how to add the bulbs to ZHA. I believe turning the bulb on/off six times resets any pairing to a button. I don’t know how to put the bulb into a pairing mode that ZHA will detect.
Also, I don’t understand is the relationship between the outlet (or bulb) and the tradfri buttons I want to control them. Do I need add the buttons to ZHA? And, if so, how?
I apologize if I’ve missed instructional materials on my questions. Thanks for your help.
I’ve learned how to connect the tradfri short-cut button and the tradfri bulb to ZHA. The key is to be close to the dongle (skyconnect in my case) when initiating the pairing sequence.
I believe the next step for me is to learn how to add an automation between the button and the bulb.
Edit: I was able to create a simple automation from the HA menus that uses the short-cut switch to turn the tradfri bulb off/on. That was my Ah Ha moment.
I think I am on my way in this new adventure. Thanks for listening.
Usually bulbs are paired turning them on/off three times. But you have to put before that your coordinatror in paring mode.
In zigbee network you have coordinator, routers and end devices. Coordinator is probably self explanatory, as this is a device that is basically router in wifi network.
Than you have routers. In zigbee network those are devices that are always connected to coordinator and end devices can connect to them. Something like mesh node in wifi mesh network. Routers are usually smart bulbs, plugs, outlets and light switches that have neutral wire connected to them. Smart bulbs are probably the worst routers you can relay on.
End devices are various battery powered devices, usually sensors, light switches that don’t have neutral wire connected to them and everything else that don’t go to router group.
This is simplified explanation.
Why you need routers in zigbee network? Well because they can extend your zigbee network and work as sort of communication bridge between your coordinator and end device.
