C++ in Home Assistant

I am very new to Home Assitant amazing world. As a former C++ programmer that is my comfort zone and i allready know i would like to use some C++ code together with ESP8266 and ESP32.

My question. Are there any way to flash an ESP with some ESPhome code and also add my own C++ code? Is it possible and if, where can i find more info about it?

It is my understanding that you can add custom components to esphome that can basically do anything.
In the process of testing this myself :wink:
