It’s some time i use Home Assistant and i have it pretty well configured and automated, using KNX and zigbee sensors to manage a diy security systema.
Now it’s time to include some camera in my setup, i’ve found some relatively cheap cameras with a decent resolution, PTZ, local sd card storage, motion detection and motion follow.
I don’t know yet how these function are useful since i want to trigger my camera recording when the security system is triggered (since my camera are indoors and all the entry point are sensor covered, so unless people materialise inside the house there shouldnt be problem), so probably the motion detection is not so important, PTZ can be useful so i can monitor corner of my house from outside. Also, i dont know if i want to record on the sd card embedded on the camera (since it can be easily removed), so i was thinking of a NVR (i have NAS on my network) and a hybrid model, using something like motioneye or frigate just for the purpose of recording and trigger the recording manually or by automations.
i’ve found little or no information on how to automate (or manually) start of recording on these two systems (it seems they can manually triggered) and even less infomration on how to store the data on a NAS connected to the same network as my HA.
im not looking for specific suggestions on camera or other hardaware, just some ideas on where and how to focus to get a realiable system for example: do i really need an on camera motion detection if i have motioneye? is it possible to mount a network share and record the camera stream on it on demand (autmation or manually), and other things like that
Thank to everyone that would add their idea!
Frigate is fully customizable as far as when it records / snapshots / etc. via the HA integration GitHub - blakeblackshear/frigate-hass-integration: Frigate integration for Home Assistant
