I have been looking left and right for an answer on this but haven’t found it.
What is the minimum that is needed to use the movement in a camera as a sensor.
Does the camera need to be equipped with motion abilities, do you need a DVR or ‘full blown’ or specific camera software with motion options?
btw: I use zoneminder with motion detection configured but that didn’t create any motion sensors.
Any help is higly appreciated!
Have a look at frigate, it is also available as an addon. It can detect all kinds of object that appear as an entity to report “motion” in homeassistant. One downside is it needs some cpu power to work reliably.

So it’s always necessary to have software that can detect motion on camera’s if I want to use this in HA?
If there is a so called “integration” for a camera or nvr you may not need that.
