Cameras versus Spiders

Does anyone have any practical tips for stopping spiders making cobwebs over a camera with an IR nightlight? Mine is very high up so I can’t just wipe it with a feather duster

Taping the duster to a long pipe or extension pole works for me (10-12 foot height)

I mix a few drops of eucalyptus oil into 500ml of water and use a small sprayer to mist all around my cameras and PIR sensors.

I ended up buying a couple of IR lights and mounted them next to the cameras. Improves the night vision and lures the spiders away from the cameras …

Turn off the IRs on the camera.

Why would I do that ? The spiders stay away from the cams as they prefer the stronger IR spots, where they do no harm …

I’ve used that “pest block” spray from the home supply store which is advertised to keep such critters away from houses. I’ll have to try the eucalyptus oil, which is probably a more environmentally-friendly option.

Usually though I just use a long pole with something like a rag or paper towel on the end.

How often?

It seems to keep the spiders off for several months and indoors where rain doesn’t affect the application I only need to do it yearly

I smeared Olbas oil (which contains eucaliptus) around my camera housing on the 21st Nov, and the spider webs returned on the 28th Dec.

IR light attracts some insects. Insects attract spiders.
Turn off the IR on the camera and install an IR source a couple of feet away.
