Can anyone explain why mine home assistant reboot often a day?

Can someone help me? Or find the problem.

Thank you

Rebooting or restarting?
What is the host computer?

Did you server crash at 23:00 that day and just 23 minutes after boot?

And do you have enough free space on your media?
Running with debug on can eat up space fast.

Rebooting. The host is a Raspberry pi 4.

  • Core: 2025.3.4
  • Supervisor: 2025.03.3
  • Operating System: 15.0
  • Frontend: 20250306.0

That’s correctly he reboot 23 minutes after boot.

I changed the setting in the configuration to this:

logger:
  default: error

Debug is know disappeared in the log.
But he is still rebooting.

Is it possible to delete som (log) files so there is more space? When it should be a space issue?

A random reboot of a Raspberry Pi is almost always a power supply issue.
Nothing in the log files is another indicator that the host computer rebooted. Home Assistant was running fine right up to the moment the CPU stopped, so there is nothing to log.

Thank you again.
I order directly a Originele Raspberry Pi 5 power supply USB-C 27W EU - Zwart.
I let you know when te PS fixed my “issue”.

Backups and an long term DB unmanaged are two things you should keep an eye on.
Logs are not the way to avoid a full disc.
And a full disc can also be the case, because then it can not write the last log events to file.

You should be able to use a command to see the free disc space on your HA, if you do not already have made a sensor for it in HA itself.

I’m not convinced about power or storage issues.

Look at this part of your logs:

2025-03-23 23:00:00.488 WARNING (MainThread) [homeassistant.helpers.template] Template variable warning: 'dict object' has no attribute 'cloud_coverage' when rendering '{{ daily['weather.huis'].forecast[0].cloud_coverage }}'

I’d start searching for whatever is providing the sensor.openweathermap_forecast_cloud_coverage_3 sensor/attribute (looks like a template helper) and disable that.

Were you messing around with weather forecasts right before these issues started?

While worth investigating, errors like these will not cause a reboot.

Generally. I’d agree with you. But if it’s a template helper which is constantly trying to evaluate something it cannot, it could lead to the memory being overwhelmed.

It’s not the first time the above scenario played out in these forums, and all we know so far is that its a Pi4, with no indication if it’s a 1GB model or an 8GB model.

Except there was only one logged in half an hour. If that caused an out of memory, anything would.

Yep, you’re right. Wasn’t looking at the timestamps.

Either way, I’d recommend that the best way to go about it is to take a step back and try to figure out what changed just before this issue started.

The sensor below is not in use.

Also I disabled him.

The raspberry pi4 has 2 GB ram.

And after I make this print screen he is rebooting again
So hopefully the new power supply is the solution.

Normally when something happend, I go a step back to find the solution.

But this time I do not make a change in the system at all.
Fingers cross for the power supply.

I don’t understand Dutch, so can’t tell for sure what most of those sensors mean.

However, I do understand “Memory free” and “Swap Usage” and can tell you those are not great figures.

Something is eating up your memory and you need to figure out what’s causing it. Having an 85% memory & 40% swap usage after just half an hour of uptime isn’t gonna be fixed by changing the power supply.

Hi Shadow,

I think I fixed the problem.
when I shut the ad-on AdGuard home down. Homeassist is functioning correctly now.

Thank you al for your time and your opinion.

What happened when you shut AdGuard down? Did your memory go down to more reasonable levels, or was it something else?

The specs statics are a Lille bit lower. But it works total fine.
The difference between the uptime and lastboot is an ad-on update.

From my perspective, I see a 9% reduction in swap usage caused by a 3% reduction in RAM usage.
I still say it might be time to start looking into something with more RAM than 2GB.

EDIT: Holy crap! spotted this in your earlier log:

'automation_count': 132,'integration_count': 55, 'addon_count': 16

All of this on 2 Gigs?
