Can hassbian be installed on a SSD drive?

I am considering using a SSD drive I have to boot my raspberry pi3b+.

So I want to install hassbian or should I just install stretch and do a manual install. I am not clear on the difference.

I don’t want hass.io because I need to hack a lot for the devices I have on my zwave network.

Hassbian is just raspbian with a bunch of scripts to install and maintain HA. Anything you can do with raspbian you can do with hassbian.
