Can home assistant green host adguard home?

I’m pretty sure the answer is no but the UI just makes me wonder so, if I want to use Adguard Home, do I need to install it on another device, and then Green is just a UI for it? Or can I install Adguard on the Green and point my DNS to my Green IP and get blocking?

I tried the latter and just couldn’t get any site to resolve.

Go to the HA Addon store, search AdGuard and install it from there.

Here is the Git repo: AdGuard Home Addon.

I did that, but is that a full install of Adguard, or is that just a plugin that points to an adguard installation on another computer?

Yes it is a full install in a container.
Follow the readme’s

Thanks I appreciate it. I tried to follow from start to finish, but must have missed something. Looks like I’m kicking everyone off the Internet this weekend and sitting down step by step!

Unless you know exactly what that does and what it is changing to your DNS and exactly why you need it, just don’t do it. Pihole either.
It will be the start of a I Hate Home Assistant period in your life when you load this and it won’t be HA’s fault at all.

Why do you think you can trust lists of websites from rando users (Half of which want to steal your data) and uncontrolled DNS servers when you can’t trust the tried and true DNS servers created at the start of the internet and have been regulated and controlled and used by the entire world.

6 months from now you will break, have no idea how this is set-up, and be lost.

Advice from someone that sees dozens of posts here every day.
I see a problem, won’t update, cant use TTS, can get data from… The answer is it’s always DNS, and are you using Adware or Pihole…

Take a breath my dude

SG is on a crusade against Adguard/Pihole.

My 2 cents:

  • run adguard/pihole on another device then your HA server
  • don’t use it in HA as your DNS server. HA should use 1.1.1.1/8.8.8.8

That would be an improvement, but as I’m also a YT creator, it irks me from that end as well…
