Can I have an action based on the outside temp?

Hello everyone. I’m new to Home assistant and have set up a B-hyve valve that I can turn on and off from Home assistant. I am interested in turning it on only if the temp outside is above a certain amount. Could someone point me in the direction so that I can learn how to do this? I don’t have a an outside gauge that will work with home assistant.

Thank you

Steve

You can use one of the weather integrations to get the outside temperature near you, see https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/#weather there are more third party weather provider integrations in HACS.

Do you want to automate turning it on based on temperature or do you want to prevent it from being turned on via the dashboard when the temperature is below your limit?

If the first, use a generic thermostat.

If the latter you can call a script with a numeric state condition from a button.

Thank you very much. I’ll start here.

Just a follow up to this. I wanted to know which weather service most use in the usa for this type of integration. I tried to create an account with open weather map but my API key was never correct.
Just wondering what others are using. Would be happy to pay a small amount($20-30/year) if there was a service with a lot of extra stuff that would make it “cooler”…I know puny.

That depends on which country you are in.

I use the BoM weather integration. This 3rd party integration (available in HACS) only has data for Australia.
