Can I split usb port?

Hi
First a warning. Im a beginner.
Long time since I tried pi with ha but im ready for another go. My plan is pi 4 with 4-8gb and reuse old ssd I have instead of micro. Then I need to buy z stick and zigbee.

Now to my noob question.
Pi has 2 usb. I need 1 for ssd, 1 for z-stick and 1 for zigbee right? So does it work nice to have a 1 to multiple usb adapter in one of the usb ports with the pi, let z stick and zigbee ”share” the port on the pi?

The pi4 has 4 USB ports. Two USB3 and two USB2.

Use the USB2 ports for zigbee and zwave adaptors, but put them on extension leads to keep them away from the interference from the USB3 ports.

Connect your SSD to one of the USB3 ports.

I’d say yes. Use an USB 2.0 hub to share/split one of the USB 2.0 port on the Pi, and then plug your zigbee and z-wave sticks to the said hub.
And like Tom said, don’t do USB3 port, and in extension, don’t do USB3 hub either.

There’s no need to use a hub. The pi has 4 ports. MrJack only needs three.

Yes I know.
I’m just answering MrJack’s question on whether he could split/share one port on Pi. And the answer is yes - if he wants to, that is.

I was going to rant on about why answering that was pointless but instead I’ll just go with it and add this:

Make sure it is an externally powered USB hub.

The pi only has…

All of the models with 4 USB ports have a maximum USB port output of 1.2A for all 4 ports combined, with no per-port limits (meaning, all 1.2A is available on a single port if no others are in use).

If the hub was not externally powered and nothing was being drawn by any devices plugged into the other three ports, then all the devices and the hub could only draw a maximum of 1.2A .

Make sure it is an externally powered USB hub, especially if using relatively power hungry devices like SDRs.
