Cannot add Matter device, requires companion app — using the app

I’m trying to add a Matter device, and have Matter in my HA installation. When I go to add it, from the app, it tells me to download the app.

Your device on which you run companion app is too old and does not support Matter.

You can add a bluetooth adapter to your HA server and dedicate it to the Matter server, which can then be used to add Matter devices, if you do not choose to get a newer device for the companion app.

Have the same problem. My device is a Samsung Galaxy S23. That should not be to old.

:face_vomiting: It seems I’m not able to use Matter cause I do not use Google Play.
The current HomeAssistant App from fdroid does not tell me that I could not use it for Matter.

The app used to commission Matter devices on Android is Googles own.
Home Assistant Companion app do not have that functionality built in.

You still have an option to commission Matter devices and that is by adding a Matter-dedicated USB stick to the server and then commission devices from within the web-interfacw of the Matter Server app.
