Cannot connect to HA after "moving"

I’m totally new to HA. I’m using it only for a project.

I’ve installed HAOS on VirtualBox since I’m using Windows 10. It worked just fine until I went to university (I installed and used HA at my home) and tried to connect and I couldn’t.

When I first instaled it i set the HA IP address to static thinking that way I would be able to use HA on another network.

What can I do to connect to it?

Hi @IlijaBu

What IP address did you assign to HA?

What IP address is assigned to the machine you are trying to connect from?

HA IP address: 192.168.2.7

My computer: 192.168.1.128

You probably need to get your HA instance onto a 192.168.1.x address. This assumes that the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, say.

Any advice on how to do that? Thru UI of VirtualBox

Also, thanks for helping me!

This may work:

Use the guide here to change the IP address of your computer to, say, 192.168.2.10. You can use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet mask, 192.168.2.7 for the defalt gateway and 8.8.8.8 for the DNS server.

Then, you should be able to put the address 192.168.2.7:8123 into a web browser on your computer to get to HA.

In HA go to Settings → System → Network → IPv4 and set the IP to Automatic. Or better, ask whoever controls the network to give you a fixed IP address.

Repeat the step for changing your computer’s IP to set the address and DNS back to automatic.

Home assistent should be available in a browser at homeassistant.local:8123

CAUTION: if HA isn’t findable at homeassistant.local:8123 then you may need to ask the person who controls the router (or more properly, the DHCP server) to find which address has been given to HA.

That worked!

Had a few problems when I changed computer’s IP back to automatic, but everything is good now.

Thanks A LOT!
