Cannot start Zigbee2MQTT [SOLVED] (DOH!)

So you can control Zigbee devices connected to your Sonoff stick? Z-wave is a totally different protocol, has nothing to do with Zigbee. I would still reflash your stick, it does not require repairing devices.

Stephen Strange Mann: make sure you don’t have ZHA enabled, this seems to happen a lot when starting with z2m.

DOH! Senior moment here. Thanks for pointing out my confusion.

99% of my devices are WiFi and I only have a few Z-wave switches. That’s all working.

It’s just my Zigbee door sensors that aren’t. I don’t know why I got the two protocols confused

When you find yourself in a hole- stop digging.
Forget Z-wave; that’s all working. I have two Zigbee door switches that aren’t working since the system restore. Zigbee2MQTT won’t start.

I feel really stupid this morning. Can I just delete the whole thread and start over?

It’s better to learn from your mistakes by confronting yourself with them…
Again: make sure you don’t have the ZHA integration loaded.

SOLVED.

Can we just forget the past 12 hours ever happened?
Where is the “Rewind” button?
Where is the Time Machine when you need one?

Everything is working now, and yes, your inputs were helpful. The problem was even evident in my first post. And, yes, I was incredibly stupid to not see it.

When I reassembled the NUC, I forgot to plug in the USB cable to the Zigbee dongle.

Can we make this one as a sticky?! :star_struck:  :upside_down_face:

But, good you got it solved Stephen Strange!

Nooooooooo! I’m embarrassed enough already.

Reminds me of when I spent hours exploring why a host wasn’t getting a dhcp address - , plugging in the ethernet cable solved it some hours later.

Tsss, they really should speed up the development on wireless cables…
This would, at least, have saved Stephen & Nick!

Count me in ! , we all get there, only a matter of time  … ( yeah yeah i’ve been there for awhile !)

Hello

I have HA with Zigbee HA integration with all the Zigbee devices connected through my Sonoff dongle E and a Sonoff dongle working as repeater.
To get Zigbee2MQTT working I should disable ZHA and then start Z2MQTT ?
Will all of my Zigbee devices keep working with their entities which I used in all my automations etc?
Or do I have to re-scan them all again by pressing the pairing buttons on the devices?
The reason why I want to work with Z2MQTT is because I have added some zigbee radiator knobs and they seems to work better through Z2MQTT for programming.
Now at this moment I have also the problem bad gateway 502 and after some searching I came to this topic.

Yes you have to disable ZHA if you only have a single coordinator. No they will not work after you switch from ZHA to Z2M, you will need to re-pair all devices. Your automations will break if you use device ids. If you use states you can rename the devices to their previous names after pairing.

So I have to push the pairing button again on every zigbee device after I have disabled ZHA and started Z2MQTT? It’s not possible to re-pair them from Z2MQTT app without pushing the pair button?
I have a Sonoff USB dongle E on my NUC machine and I have flashed another Sonoff USB dongle E to act as a Zigbee repeater.
And I have a Zigbee hub which works with Smartlife and through which I use some thermostats because I can’t use them directly in Zigbee in HA.
Is it much better and easier to use Z2MQTT for the installation and configuration of Zigbee units and use them in automations and scenes, etc?
Could I test Z2MQTT first without deleting ZHA from HA by disabling ZHA instead of removing the integration?
Because if Z2MQTT still won’t start I would have a major problem in the meantime

Yes, if you want to migrate from ZHA to Z2M you need to do that.

No, your Z2M does not know that the ZHA devices exist before you pair them.

You could use one dongle with ZHA and one with Z2M. Be aware of radio disturbances.

That depends on who you ask. In a whole ZHA is “easier”, it does not rely on a MQTT broker. Both are good though.

If you want to test just reflash the dongle you have flashed with router firmware and set up Z2M using that.

Maybe off-topic now but what dongle do you prefer to use with Z2MQTT and HA?

I use SLZB-06 and UZG-01.

Thanks for your quick response.
Both with Z2MQTT in one HA instance ? Or do you use them seperately with different Zigbee integrations?

I had some trouble with some Elko thermostats on Z2M so at the moment I’m using Z2M with the SLZB-06 as my “main” Zigbee and ZHA with the UZG-01 for 7 thermostats.
