I am using DuckDNS to access my Home Assistant server (Ubuntu 18.04) from the outside world (for my Google Home Mini). This setup works great. Just installed a VPN (ExpressVPN) but now I cannot access HA anymore? It is VPN related: as soon as I disconnect the VPN everything works fine. I have been searching for answers but no luck so far. Anyone who can help me? Thanks!
Ide.
Did you install that on the server running Home Assistant? Or on the system you’re trying to connect to Home Assistant from?
Your VPN provider probably can
ExpressVPN is installed on the Ubuntu Server where HA is running. I want to use the VPN for radarr/sonarr, also running on this server (Intel NUC). Plex also runs on it and that works fine.
Then you need to exclude Home Assistant from being routed over the VPN, or you need to run Home Assistant on another computer.
Thanks Tinkerer. The Windows and Mac versions of ExpressVPN have a split-tunnelling option. Unfortunately the linux version does not. Can you think of any other way to achieve the above and do you know another VPN that supports this configuration?
I don’t
Thanks for taking time and effort for replying. I’ll install HA one another server.
I found a work around using cloud. With Remote UI I can still access my HA server from the outside world and the Google Home Mini works too, all with the VPN running!
