Can't connect Sonoff usb dongle plus E to HA on Macbook Air

Hello all,
Quite a noob here so please bear with me.
I recently bought a Sonoff dongle plus in an attempt to controll my zigbee led tape controllers, zigbee smart bulbs and some other zigbee devices. Initially I had a Nspanel Pro but it’s very slow and laggy when it comes to changing scenes.
So after a bit of research I thought I’ll try home assistant maybe with a Raspberry Pi and a zigbee dongle. But before I’d buy a Raspberry Pi (A HA Green seems like a good option) I decided to try it on my macbook air.
(I relied mainly on chatgpt on how to do all of these things…)
I installed homebrew, then Python, then the HA app as well as the cp210x driver (which I don’t even know if I needed it as the dongle did already come up in HA as a discovered item, during its install it stopped halfway thru, I force quit it but the driver seems to be up and running anyway, might be completely irrelevant).
I also checked the USB port number in terminal, seems to be all good.
But when I tried to add ZHA in HA I always get the “can’t connect” or “can’t probe USB device” error message. I tried adding it as a device, as a integration, via the “discovered device”, I made sure the port number was correct and the radio type is ZNP but it always failed to connect.
I read that a USB extension might be crucial so I tried that as well using a passive 5m long cable but with no luck.
I also made sure the nspanel pro is OFF while trying to connect.
Sorry for the long post, if anyone could suggest what I might be doing wrong I’d be very grateful.
Thank you!

Never mind then…

Can’t connect Sonoff usb dongle plus E

Silicon Labs EmberZNet based radios use the EZSP protocol
Texas Instruments based radios use ZNP

The Dongle-E is EZSP, the Dongle-P is ZNP
