Hi all, I just got done installing HA via the “Installation in Virtualenv” guide and am able to get the HA ui via browser, but I am not able to see any yaml files in the directory the guide said they would be. Sorry for the noobie question but I am totally lost.

did you use the all in one installer then your files should be under:
/home/hass/.homeassistant
if you installed manualy with the getting started guide for virtualenv it should be:
/home/homeassistant/.homeassistant

Sometimes the files and directorys with a leading dot/point are hidden. Try to make everything visible in your ftp- or whatever Programm.
Only if he installed prior to December 2016. That path was changed to:
/home/homeassistant/.homeassistant
Sorry my fault, just copied my path… Shame on me

Bah, no worries - I installed it pre December and I still have to look it up when answering questions to make sure I didn’t get it wrong.
I’m still trying to figure out why they changed it in the first place.
