Can't see home assistant login screen on cheap android tab

Hi, i had some cheap android tab (4.4) that I was using with Openhab. I’m trying to use it from home assistant but I can’t login … when I try to go on the web page all I see is a blank page …

Can I do something or I have to buy better tab ?

thanks

Home Assistant requires a modern browsers. Try to install Chrome.

Y tried it with fully kiosk browser … othet user use it and it’s working fine … i will try chrome tonight

We are collecting details about the browsers at https://www.home-assistant.io/docs/frontend/browsers/

The problem with older versions of android is with Android Webview. 3rd party apps (like fully kiosk) that need to display a web page have to use the inbuilt android engine (android webview). On older versions of android this webview is often very old and out of date. The custom android roms Chinese manufacturers use are very often not updated and there is really no way of updating the android webview other than going back to the original rom maker. Even though the google play store may say you have updated webview it is not the case with these custom roms.

Chrome will work okay as it does not use android webview. I think from android 7 webview was done away with and replaced with the chrome web engine

Thanks for the answer !

Chrome work ! but it does not do what I need … I can’t hide the bottom bar if I add it to home screen to have it full screen I can’t choose witch Lovelace I want to show first I have no access on turning on/off the screen …

I try opera and it work too and it have a full screen mode ! but I would really like to run fully kiosk browser …

I wouldn’t be suprise that it could work but I need to bypass the login screen how can I do that ?

I’ve recently discovered a similar issue with Fully Kiosk Browser (FSK). Approximately 3 days ago (10/5/2019), my Fire 7" 5th generation stopped displaying HA via FSK. I did a complete reset of the tablet, reloaded the most recent version of FSK, and I am still unable to have the Lovelace interface load. The screen shows HA icon and initializing…!

I can not get HA loaded with hassio.local or https! address. The previous webpage was set to http://IP:8123. I loaded a new FSK app on a Fire 7, 7th generation with the exact same results. Interesting, I have another Fire 7 (7th gen) that still works running FSK 1.29.

I have read the suggestion that Android Webviewer is out of date and not compatible with FSK load screen, but this was a previously working system. In addition, I still have 1/3 that displays/loads properly. I can not find any commonality between them. The HA webpage does load with any browser (i.e SIlk, Chrome, etc.), just not FSK.

Again, this system was working flawlessly until recently and there have been no recent system updates. Current version HA 99.4

Has anyone else experienced this issue lately or knows of a solution? Any guidance would be much appreciated.

I have exactly the same issue… I’m trying to flash another rom and try to update webview with that

I have the same problem.
In Tab3 GT-P5210 not work
In Tab3 GT-P5220 work

Hi, do you solve it somehow?I have the same problem on Nexus 7 (2013).

I bought some amazon fire 7 ! they are so cheap ! if you wait like for amazon day or something like that you can find them at 50$

I have the same problem with my old iPad 9.3.5 now after the latest upgrade to Home Assistant Core 2022.6.6 and Home Assistant OS 8.2.
Did you ever get any feedback or work out how to get it to work?
I tried that autologin of trusted devices but made no difference.

interested in this too, i have some old android 5 screen, but dont get passed the initillizing screen , like mentioned above

Migrated from domoticz to HA. But now my tablet has the same problem as described above. Not getting pasted login screen with Fully Kiosk.

Anyone has a workaround?

what device do you have? what version of android?

An old Huawei tablet with Android 4.4.2.

On Chrome the login is working

Oh, nah, not supported anymore, HA needs WebView , and webview needs android 6 now

Than i guess it is time for a new “old” tablet :stuck_out_tongue:
