Is there any chance iOS app will become CarPlay compatible?
While it would be cool to have, CarPlay doesn’t have Safari support and also doesn’t fall into one of the approvable categories of apps (the app has to be specifically approved for CarPlay). So, unlikely!

No wonder there are so few apps for CarPlay!
To add to this, however, Apple is adding Shortcuts (used to be workflow), which will add the ability to create workflows and interact with the home assistant api. Not sure about how integrated it will be, but will definitely add the ability to ask siri to “open the garage door”, and have it run through Shortcuts.
Or Homekit.
I have a external gate than a garage door and HomeKit integration is displaying only one call to action (and requires wifi in a zone when the signal il too low)
I have found an easy way to open them using CarPlay integration for shelly app that has been recently approved for CarPlay.
The integration is quite easy but powerful! You can add a subset of buttons into the Car view.
Please consider a simple integration like that.
