I recently found this cool video explaining how to use the new “cast” feature to view a camera stream on a Google Nest Hub.
I’ve followed the directions easily, but the resulting stream does not play. The camera is available to pick within Home Assistant (a still picture from the current stream is shown, confirming the device responds to Home Assistant) and the action brings up the “default media receiver” on the Hub, but it fails from there, only showing the cast icon after several seconds.
The stream is from an Reolink camera. My guess is that the stream is username/password protected and cannot anonymously stream to the Hub. Is this a fair guess? What else could be wrong? How can I fix this?
EDIT: I also tried using the DashCast service, but that failed with similar results.
I tried to reinstall the cast and Also the reolink Integration.
I also addedd :8123 at the internal adress in the network settings. Now it works.
Workaround, wich also does the same:
Install the assistant sdk on the home assistant. Also connect in the Google home App reolink.
Than you can write a command “Show Camera in the livingroom”
Did you have to have the reolink integration in HA or google home?
If i tell google to play the camera, it works - using the google assistant sdk in home assistant “show the doorbell” plays "default media player " on the nest hub with no video stream
