Hey all. Not sure if this is the right topic section to ask for assistance
I’m kinda new to Home Assistant as I’ve been using HomeBridge which I have linked up with Alexa and it’s been working great but Home Assistant has functions that HomeBridge doesn’t. I want to keep HomeBridge and also use Home Assistant at the same time as I’m using two seperate Raspberry PI
My biggest hurdle is my CBUS system for my lighting. I don’t know if it’s possible to share my Cbus interface with HomeBridge and Home Assistant and also Toolkit. I would alway have to disconnect HomeBridge from the network to access toolkit and vice versa and now I’m having the same issue between the two raspberry Pi’s.
I’ve googled the hell out of it for a solution so I’ve come here where all the smart people are in hope for a solution.
TIA
The only way to easily do this is by each integration being able to connect via C-Gate rather than direct to your C-Bus serial/usb/ethernet interface. (Or add a second interface). I don’t know if HomeBridge can do this but C-Bus Toolkit does.
I’m going to look in C-gate option. Where would that need to be set up to?
If you have C-Bus Toolikit installed then it will have (by default) already installed C-Gate on that same machine.
That’s correct. Cgate is on the same laptop as toolkit set up as local. Isn’t your suggestion to set that up as remote? That’s what I need directions with on how to set up cgate on home assistant
If you want you can setup C-Gate on any PC and then configure Toolkit to connect to that as a ‘remote client’ . You will need to configure the remote C-Gate install’s preferences to allow Toolkit and others to connect by adding the associated IP’s. C-Gates instructions are very complete on this.
OR you can use the already installed local C-Gate for Toolkit as the server and your remote clients (assuming they support C-Gate as a connection protocol option) to accept incoming connections. Not a good solution if this is on a laptop (service availability)
If you have only the one hardware interface to C-Bus you can only use one of the above setups
C-Gate would be installed as a separate app on the HomeAssistant PC as I describe above.
PS Just to clarify does/can your HomeBridge plugin communicate with C-Bus via C-Gate?
Edit…. I believe it does so all 3 could work together without having to disconnect ……
Also IIRC there is an addon allowing some aspects of a direct C-Bus working integration, possibly including C-Gate, to be installed within HomeAssistant, It may however require C-Gate externally. I use MQTT rather than this so I’m not sure. Search this forum, it was discussed here and it might suit your needs too. Maybe it was this thread ?
