Charging my car without draining the home battery (Huawei/Fusion Solar)

Hi everyone,

I currently log into the FusionSolar web interface every time I charge my car to manually force-charge my home battery at the same time. Without this intervention, my home battery ends up discharging straight into the car.

I’m wondering if there’s a way to automate this process using Home Assistant. Could it be done via the API or the Modbus integration?

Any guidance or examples would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Hi Urs,

Have you had a look at EVCC.io? It includes active battery management.

You can integrate EVCC as an add-on in Home Assistant and then control it via Home Assistant using “REST Commands” in automations to send commands like stopping discharges.
REST API | evcc - Sonne tanken ☀️🚘
For example, I use it to send my charging plans, which are automatically created based on calendar entries in Home Assistant, to EVCC.

Technical note:
It is more economical to run the home battery under full power load, as the inverter works more efficiently that way. So, when charging the car, you experience less energy loss compared to the small power consumption of the house over a longer period.
(Though, of course, I also understand the emotional aspect of wanting to keep some energy available for household use  )
