Is there a way to check whether a device is in flight mode? I did not find a sensor, but it would be really helpful for a fallback on location tracking.
E.g. I don’t want to be “Away”, when I turn my device to flight mode during the night. In this case my router does not find my device and the tracker switches to “Away”.
Currently I use the HA companion device tracker (in case GPS is activated) and the device tracker from my router as fallback.
It seems unlikely, as phone sensors can’t update in Home Assistant when the device is in airplane mode. A possible solution is to create an automation where, if marked as away during the night, the status remains “home.” For instance, using an NFC tag placed near the phone could automatically trigger the automation, activate airplane mode, and distinguish when the phone is truly outside the home at night. Alternatively, consider adjusting the routine to use “Do Not Disturb” mode instead, allowing the phone to stay connected.
Phone sensors cannot update while in flight mode, but there could be a notification before going into flight mode however… Nevertheless after a lot of research it seems like this is not the case.
The solution using the automation does not work, because as you said I could not distinguish between the case when I am really away during the night.
Using DnD does not work either for me, because I mainly put my phone to flight mode to save battery.
I like the idea using the NFC tag though. This would work, if I attach the tag at my nightstand. I am giving this a try, thanks again
