Hi,
I’ve been running HA on a pi3 for a couple of years just testing everything out, figuring out what I want, and how I want it. then I decided to upgrade my home to fully run on HA.
That pi3 (running a SD card) was great, but of course the card got corrupted a couple of times And the devices itself was salvaged, so was crashing from time to time.
I ordered a Home Assistant Blue bundle, but they’ve just updated the device page that they expect the devices are going to arrive mid-june now (this is the 3th postponing that I’m aware of) (ODROID-N2+ Home Assistant Bundle — ameriDroid)
So I’ve decided cancel that order, and switch to another device/vendor, but I’m having a hard time selecting the “right” device for the job.
I started looking at a intel NUC, because my Plex server has sometimes some issues when transcoding (direct play works perfectly). And If I could combine them that would be a easy win (maybe later on having an external GPU connected to it, if needed and the prices drop).
Also I’m thinking on using my indoor camera’s to do some ML person detection so I can change my scenes depending on how many (or preferably: who) is in the house
But they have a lot of variations, and I don’t really know how these have an impact on home assistant, what is useful (what isn’t), if it’s really worth it, …
So does anybody have some suggestions/experiences with hardware that could run my setup?
Money isn’t really a direct issue, but I preferably don’t pay 2k for something that a 200$ device can do, but I don’t cheap out just to have the absolute cheapest option
Full Home setup (or the stuff that will have a connection with HA):
- Unifi networking (3 AP, a couple of POE switches, …)
- Unifi G4’s for indoor security
- TADO, for heating
- Lights:
- All bulbs are Philips Hue
- Activated via motion Sensors in most places
- The switches in the house (that I don’t use) are Stepping switches (we call it “teleruptors” in Belgium) these are basically relays that can switch 230V
- Sound:
- Ikea/Sonos boxes for background music
- Sonos beam + one’s + sub for Home Theater
- Sonos 5 as a computer sound (this was unnecessary, but I didn’t have any boxes. And now I can play music from my pc and hear it all over the place )
- Android TV (TCL 65C715)
- Synology NAS (currently running plex, radarr, sonarr, … on this)
- I have Zigbee and Z-wave sticks ( was going to switch like Hue to run on these, but then my Pi failed)
