hi, I am almost blank on these smart-matters, please excuse me. I would like help to find hard ware to send information from the electrical meter ion the barn, and to my living house. The distance is aprox 300m. The meter is a Kamstrup with a HAN-port. I plan for buying a Home assistant green. If I get it correct, I need one device at the meter, and one on the Green. Hopefully I can get some information through the Green to send to the app on the mobile? Seems like Zigbee has long range? Is a Home Assistant Connect ZBT-1 what I could use?
Way too far for zigbee, even more so if you take walls, other obstructions (trees/ bushes) or rain/ fog into account.
If you have power running from your house to your barn you could try an Ethernet over powerline adaptor to get a network connection out to your barn.
If low baud rate is acceptable, look at LORA.
Last summer I experimented briefly with WiFi using old satellite dishes. I got a reliable connection at 200 ft (61m) with a dish on the remote end pointed toward my house. The remote dish had a simple ESPHome device that displayed the RSSI). If I had a dish on both ends with an AP at the house the range would have been greater.
My experiment was brief because it started to rain, and I just wanted to see what improvement one dish would have made. At my 200 ft position I saw about a 10 unit increase in the RSSI. But I ran out of back yard.
Search the forum for LORA.
I have reliable connection 70m with old sonoff mini passing from irrigation well to my house without any tricks.
Yes I have 230V available at the barn. Have plans for moving meter from the barn to closer to the house. It will be aprox 105m between meter and to possible position for a repeeter(?). Then again same distance to house.
Ordered a POWK-ENC from amsleser now, and a Home Assistant Green. Hoping from “learning by doing” as I have non experiance in this.
Amsleser.no concirmed that it supports Home Assistant, HA green seems to do what I want. Any suggestions on a repeater for the wifi?
And would I need a repeater outside the cabinet where the meter is located?
For me it looks like the amsleser POW-K
needs an outside antenna?
Tom suggested Ethernet on powerline. Yes it will be low voltage (3x230V) from meter to all houses at the farm. How can I wifi (or the signal from HAN-port) to Ethernet, and back to the Green box? Is there any side effect of Ethernet? Disturbinance from el-motor on the grid?
Will investigate for LORA.
Also trying to think ahead; but hard when knowledge is low…
Have a nano-hydro power plant with variation on power. Should regulate consuption regarding production…Endless automation needs (

What you actually need to read from the meter? Something you can’t read where the wires arrive?
300m is likely too much for the powerline adapter, 100m should be fine.
