Christmas LED Addressable light string recommendations?

Looking to upgrade my old boring Christmas lights with addressable LEDs this year (both indoor and outdoor). I will likely be using WLED with an esp8266 to power it.

Anyone have recommendations for specific brands that are decent/reliable (hopefully not too expensive)? There probably isn’t enough time to order/wait for anything from aliexpress and expect it to be here in time to use them this year. So I’ll likely be searching Amazon.

For my tree lights, I was thinking that 5v string lights would be the way to go, since I likely wouldn’t need many strands to cover the tree (8ft ceilings don’t allow for a very big tree). If several strands are needed to cover the tree, I can inject power as needed.

For outdoor lights, I was thinking that 12v string lights would be better, so they could cover longer distances before injecting power?

Also, has anyone seen/used LEDs like the ones used in this video?

They appear to be some sort of “mini” ws2812b LED strings, but I’m not able to find them on Amazon. I see some traditional “fairy” lights that look similar, but aren’t RGB/addressable. If those work well, I’d definitely consider using them on the tree instead of the traditional string LEDs.

What are your thoughts on decent brands/products to use? What would you recommend as far as voltages for indoor vs outdoor lights? Any thoughts/recommendations would be appreciated.

I just ordered these - with the intention to connect them to an ESP and run WLED. These allegedly run on 5V and are rated IP65. I am expecting these to arrive in ~3 weeks and will start testing them then.

I’ve never seen Fairy Lights like this that have WS2812B ICs in the them. Can you cut the strand at any point just like the usual WS2812Bs?

Good luck getting any before christmas. BTF lighting on aliexpress is where I get my lights.

I don’t know yet. The product info doesn’t talk about cutting, and I wasn’t planning on cutting but instead just wrap the whole 10 metres around the terrace.

BTF lighting also has similar fairy lights (https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32707248386.html), but these would take much longer to deliver, and they are explicitly saying they are “non-waterproof”.

Did you get these working?

Yes, I did. I received the string light about a week ago and rebuilt it into a WLED light. I just finished my write up:
