That is the graph of smoking in the next room balcony, where the balcony door is open and i smoke 2-3 cigarettes. It might be a little sensitive i don’t know, especially the clearing of smoke values (I didn’t opened a windows in that sensor room) … Btw there was only a little smoke smell in that sensor room,no smoke itself. Just for your info on Xiaomi sensitivity on smoke.
Hi,
the sensor I’m using is the MQ135 - LINK
the tasmota firware can be customized with rules for triggering once the value changes abruptatly and thus reporting the value to HA
I’m using the sensor not for smoking , although I’m a smoker, i dont smoke inside the house.
I guess that Xiaomi sensor can be a diferent sensor, but the imediatly repoting to HA can be achieved with rules in the TASMOTA chip
I have the Xiaomi model from the above post for more than an two years working perfectly (with some Wi-Fi loss 3-4 times / year, has DHCP reservation) integrated in HA with “Xiaomi Miot Auto” has local communication. It is verry sensitive and it will detect smoking in the first 5 to 10 seconds since it was light (my room is small and sensor is close to the smoking desk. (the sensor has small fan inside to take air faster from the environment)
I can even count the cigarettes smoked / day in that room, actually this is a great idea, I can then know how much money is wasted by my girlfriend, only she smokes. Good bargaining chip when I want to waste money on audio equipment
I can share the automation or anything that you might need if someone is interested.
Here is the graph for the last 24h, anything over 800 is a smoke brake. In the morning that big spike is definitely 2 or 3 tigress with coffee.
I’m using a Sensirion SPS30 connected to a WEMOS S2 mini ESP32 board running ESPhome to detect cigarette smoke from neighbours so I can close the windows.
I have the sensor mounted in a solar radiation shield type enclosure outside and it’s proven effective at detecting my neighbours smoking, although the worst offender smokes practically on top of the sensor (balcony above).
The sensor runs continuously and I have a derivative type helper set up so it triggers only on sudden increases. It’s set up to alert via broadcast to my nest mini speakers (“Air pollution detected”) and only when the window or door to the terrace is open.
This is the last two days of the raw sensor output:
Hello, I’ve just bought a Xiaomi pm2.5 following your advice but I can’t connect it to the xiaomi app, it seems like it’s not in the app, how can I do this?
Hello, use the qingping+ app from the Google store to connect it to wi-fi from your phone, after that you have two options to connect it to HA.
1 using the Xiaomi auto integration using wi-fi.(Or other integration)
2 Xiaomi Bluetooth using an Bluetooth proxy.
