Cloudflare proxy status

Last week I switched from linuxserver/swag/duckdns to cloudflare and nginx to take advantage of all the additional bells and whistles that cloudflare offers. However whilst I found swag/letsencrypt/duckdns/nginx to be fine, I’ve found cloudflare to be really unreliable.

The main culprit seems to be the cloudflare proxy status of my home assistant subdomain which keeps going from “proxied” (orange icon) to “dns” (grey icon) every few days. I’ve no idea what’s causing this and Google hasn’t yielded anything I can work with.

Any ideas where I’d start with this?

Has anyone else suffered this problem?

I could share my nginx config but I think it’s a cloudflare-specific problem?

Never mind, I think I found the answer (self inflicted of course!)
