Coffee machine (Moccamaster) Z-wave hack

Kiitos! (Thanks!)
Currently in the process of modding my Moccamaster, that will help quite a bit!

My partner just came home with one of these machines. I put it on a smart plug to see what I could do and a quick Google later I find this topic!

Unfortunately I’m not allowed to touch the machine to modify it but I’ll keep this topic in mind for when the question comes!

Briljant! hint: I did it when my partner was away for the weekend,

Ok, my Moccamaster is automated and voice activated from bed. Then the motion sensor in the hallway by the bedroom is used to trigger a slow progression of lights (and them dimming) leading the morning trekker to the coffee maker.

Only to discover that ā€œsomeoneā€ forgot to set up the coffee maker the night before.

Hope I didn’t miss this in the thread, but has anyone added sensor to make sure there’s water?

And how to know if coffee was added. We have done that, too. Add water and forget to replace the morning’s coffee grounds with fresh grounds.

Oh, and then there’s the fun of leaving the water shut-off enabled only to find the freshly brewed coffee overflowing the cone…

Such troubles.

I am considering replacing my Brew Ecpress coffeee maker with a Technivorm. My Brewexpress had a plumbed in water line, so it just needed to know that the coffee filter had been changed with new coffee added. I ended up putting an Aqara vibration sensor on the filter holder. That would tell me that I had dumped the grinds the night before. It’s a little too sensitive though, so I think I will instead just power monitor the grinder. If the grinder runs after 6pm, coffee is ready to be made I the morning.

I would love to add water fill as well to fully replace my existing maker. Is there room under the water reservoir lid to add a float switch?
