Combustion Inc

For anyone interested, I’ve created a new integration for Combustion Probes.

You can install it by adding a new HACS repo: GitHub - whilke/homeassistant-combustion-inc

This is exciting!

Mind a question or two before I try it?
I had recently tried this: GitHub - legrego/homeassistant-combustion: Integrate Combustion thermometers with Home Assistant and it completely torpedoed my HA machine (Combustion Inc. Integration crashes home assistant core · Issue #68 · legrego/homeassistant-combustion · GitHub).

I see that this is a wrapper around GitHub - legrego/combustion_ble: A Python SDK for interacting with Combustion Bluetooth thermometers which is the same author as the other one I tried. Do you know if this version has the same issues? I am really keen to set up my thermometer in HA… but a bit gunshy…

Has anyone who experienced the bug above tried this new one? If so, do you care to share your experience?

Did you ever get this working? Looking to replace our two borked wireless thermometers and Combustion Inc has risen to the top of the list, just because of their features, sensors, and predictive algorithms. But I was also really hoping for one that will work in HA, to be able to setup notifications, automations, etc. So, this would be a dream. Any update would be very interesting. Thanks so much!

I haven’t tried it… Still too paranoid from last time.
However the bug has some activity on it … it sounds like the author is working on fixing it… soon?

Nice! That’s exciting to hear. I don’t know how truly useful the integration will be but after starting down the Home Assistant journey, I want everything to be connected. HA! My mind is always thinking of ways to integrate things now.

In all seriousness, though, I do think there could be some cool notification options, like blinking the light as the temp rises past certain temps, so you’d have an idea where things are…especially useful when doing a longer cook like a roast.

On another note, are you enjoying your Combustion Inc thermometer setup? It sounds amazing.

I’m not sure If you ever got around to trying this, but I’ve been testing it out for the past few months and it has been great!

Sorry, I’m not very active on the forums here, but this integration isn’t effected by the same issue with legrego’s.

I use this with the latest HA version all the time. There are some issues when the probe is hopping devices that I need to resolve.
