I have a Conbee II stick running on a RPi 4. It has been working “so so” with lots of glitches for about the month and a half I’ve had it. One thing that seems strange to me is that it shows up twice on teh ZHA integration and in the Groups:
I did start with a firmware update as recommended by someone on Reddit with no luck. (When I first got the stick in October it wouldn’t add any Zigbee devices until I updated firmware). Today there was a newer version available that I flashed from my Windows PC.
Here is the back story if this helps anyone to give me any further suggestions on what I should be looking at/for:
All was working OK (albeit needing to reload ZHA integration and/or reboot Core HA about daily to keep all Zigbee devices online) since I setup the Zigbee on HA in late October.
Yesterday I added a Zooz 700 series Zwave dongle to begin trying that out a bit. That’s when everything went south-- basically a handful of my Zigbee devices dropped off and won’t come back online.
Here’s what I’ve done in the approximate order in past 26 hours:
Waited 5 hours for Zigbee mesh to stabilize
Removed Zwave dongle
Restored an HA complete backup prior to adding Zwave dongle
Waited overnight in hopes of Zigbee mesh stabilization
Flashed Conbee II stick with updated firmware about 24 hours after initial issues
Moved from 3A to 3.5A power supply
Reloaded ZHA integration (which required renaming all Zigbee devices (about 11)). The ZHA integration found them, but used their default names, not the edited ones I had made.
Tried to add a brand new out of the box Sonoff S31 lite (two of which were among the devices that wouldn’t work after all the above, along with a Tradfri outlet, and an Aqara motion sensor and intermittently an Aqara mini-switch). Tried adding the S31 both in its intended spot as well as 6 feet from the Conbee II
STILL…Same devices not working, others working fine, and can’t add or re-pair any devices.
I’m at the point I’ll try about anything. BTW… I tried to load Zigbee2MQTT when I got the Conbee II but wasn’t successful, so went ZHA. I MIGHT be open to Zigbee2MQTT if I knew it was the final answer, but from all that I read, I can’t be certain of that.
Thanks for any insights anyone can provide to a semi-technical, semi- but not completely- NOOB.
Check that you don’t have two systems managing the Conbee: ZHA and DeConz.
I had a case similar to yours one month ago, when I started with Home Assistant.
Then, I disabled DeConz and kept only ZHA integration for all my Zigbee devices. Things have worked much better since that moment!
I only ever installed ZHA successfully, although I did originally have 2 entries in the integration, both of which pointed to the Conbee II – one looked like the hardware (with serial number) and the other looked like some type of hardware abstraction, maybe a port ID.
Anyhow, since today’s reinstall, there is only the “hardware” entry left, but still no improvement in behavior (yet??)
Based on another recommendation from a Reddit user I did the following:
I decided to try a powered USB hub which I just happen to have lying around. It’s a USB 3.0 but I plugged it into USB 2.0 port on the RPi, just to be safe.
Everything seems to be working again!!! Now the test will be how long until I have to reboot to get a device back available again. But I’ll take one step at a time.
What is so odd is that this was all prompted by the addition of the Zwave stick, but removing it and restoring the backup prior didn’t fix the issue. Ah, the wonders of technology… can’t live with it, can’t live without it!
Now I have to decide, do I add the Zwave stick back (via the powered hub) or not take the chance since I really only have 2 devices and neither are terribly important to me.
