I’ve been enjoying having the Forecast.Solar integration running for a while now, which I’ve configured with information about a solar array I’m thinking of purchasing for our house. This gives me day-by-day and now historical estimates on the kind of income / energy that system might generate for me and offers quite useful data towards a business case for financing an installation. Having also got my weather station online in HA, it occurred to me that it’s at least theoretically possible to do something similar with the wind/gust data I’m collecting to convert this also to KwH potential for a wind turbine. Ultimately, it could be quite cool to have this kind of predictive data at hand for system planning given that I may want to put money into a turbine rather than solar and vice versa. In any case, what I’m wondering here is how I might go about calculating KwH production based on wind speed, gust and direction? Has anyone tried something like this before?
