Connect zigbee/zwave stick

New to Home Assistant
NUK with VM linux

I got this HUSBZB1 today… plugged it in thinking plug and play but nothing happened.

Any videos on how to install and configure?

See https://www.home-assistant.io/docs/z-wave/. I have a HUSBZB1 and a NUC and use

zwave:
  usb_path: /dev/ttyUSB0

But, I don’t use a VM. There are probably additional steps to make the stick visible in your VM.

how did you install HA?

You need do USB passthrough from the host to the VM you want to use that you want to use the stick in. How to do this depends on the hypervisor you used to setup the VM.

Hi @finity

I followed the instructions HERE and used the VMDK file found HERE "As a virtual appliance (x86_64/UEFI)

If you go to the “supervisor” page from left side menu, then to “system” tab, then “hardware” button, are there any devices listed there?

You should see something like this:

/dev/serial/by-id/usb-Silicon_Labs_HubZ_Smart_Home_Controller_C0F007F9-if01-port0
/dev/serial/by-id/usb-Silicon_Labs_HubZ_Smart_Home_Controller_C0F007F9-if00-port0

Hi @finity,
No, I don’t see that. Here is what I see

    • /dev/ttyS2
  • input:
    • Video Bus
    • ImExPS/2 Generic Explorer Mouse
    • VirtualBox USB Tablet
    • AT Translated Set 2 keyboard

Ok… following the instructions HERE I was able to install the Windows Drivers.
But, I still don’t see the devices under hardware.
Do I need to share something in VirtualBox?

GOT IT!!!
I had to pull the stick and reinsert it… Now the devices appear in hardware
