Connected Smoke Detectors

So at 7am this morning, ALL 9 smoke detectors went off and thankfully there was no fire. But it looks like they are about 15 years old and it’s way past their useful life. I’m looking for suggestions on what to replace them with. So far, I think I am leaning towards Nest Protect but at 1100 bucks, I thought it was reasonable to solicit some more opinions to makE sure I was not missing something more obvious.

Here are the relevant stats:
9 detectors.
2 floors
all hardwired.
No alarm system but I am using all the alarm wires with an ESP to track status. (windows and doors). - Not sure If I can leverage any of that for the smoke detectors.

All need to be replaced.

Thanks for all suggestions

Are they interconnected to all go off at once? I would suspect so by what you described the error fault to be? If so you can use a minimote on the link wire between them to get Z-wave awareness of the status.

I did own Nest protects but would avoid them; lots of failures and eventually I switched away.

I have a Nest, no complaints but a bit pricey

Today this thing arrived

Have to check it out after work.

I have some wired, interconnected smoke detectors that I’d like to make smart. Can you go into more detail on how to use a minimote for this?

Thanks

I know this post is kinda old but I just ordered these too and how do you know which smoke detector is which entity? I’ve added them but I’d like to give them a friendly name like “Smoke detector living room” but I have no idea how to identify them

Yesterday i installed 3 more and had the same problem :stuck_out_tongue:
there are 2 options:

  • Add only 1 to the gateway
  • restart hass and give him a friendly name
  • add 1 more
  • restart hass and also add a friendly name.

Add all and trigger them 1 by 1 with smoke (vape/cigarette) then you see which one triggered and you can give it a friendly name

I was thinking exactly these things! I’m going to remove them from the Xiaomi app, add them one by one and label them so I can’t mix’em up. Thanks tho!

I’ve bought a couple of these Xiaomi alarms hoping that its possible to have all alarms go off if smoke is detected, but I can’t find any info.
Maybe you guys could share some experience?

Did you manage to get this to work?
